Edmonton International Airport (YEG) is the main air passenger and air cargo facility in the Edmonton region of the province of Alberta, Canada. The airport offers scheduled non-stop flights to major cities in Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and Europe and is a hub that serves northern Alberta and northern Canada. Location of Edmonton International Airport

Edmonton International Airport is located 16 miles (26 kilometers) south west of downtown Edmonton in Leduc County on Alberta Provincial Highway No. 2, opposite the city of Leduc. The airport is a convenient 30-minute drive from downtown Edmonton, 75 minutes north from Red Deer and 2.5 hours north from Calgary.

The 747 bus service, operated by Edmonton Transit System (ETS), runs every half an hour to connect the airport to the city via the Century Park bus stop and LRT station.

History of Edmonton International Airport

Edmonton International Airport opened on 15 November 1960 and its first terminal was an arch hangar. During the 1970s, the airport experienced a rapid surge in traffic as the city of Edmonton grew and, by 1980, it served more than two million passengers per year. An expansion project carried out in 2013 increased the capacity of the terminal and included improvements to the passenger experience with the addition of travellators, lounges and retail outlets.
