Vancouver International Airport parking

Vancouver International Airport’s proximity to downtown Vancouver and its various highway connections make it easily accessible by car. The airport has many on-site parking options:

Parkade

Parkade is one of Vancouver International Airport’s best value parking lots. It is situated just a few steps away from the domestic and international terminals and is a great option for anyone dropping off or picking up passengers, offering rates by the half-hour, hour, day or week.

Parkade also features electric vehicle charging points and accessible parking, but be aware that the height restriction for this lot is six feet and six inches (1.98 meters).

Value Lot

This economical parking lot is within walking distance of the domestic and international terminals at YVR, offering slightly cheaper rates than Parkade. It is an open-area lot that offers a bonus in that customers can earn 250 Aeroplan Miles if they leave their car for more than one day.

JetSet parking

The jetSet parking option at Vancouver International Airport is ideal for travelers on a budget, offering favorable rates for short and long stays.

Situated a short drive away from the domestic and international terminals, jetSet parking offers a complimentary shuttle service to the airport, which runs every 15-20 minutes, 24 hours a day. The pick-up and drop-off for this shuttle service is located just outside arrivals at the International Terminal on Level 2 and outside arrivals at the Domestic Terminal on Level 1. If you book in advance here, you can choose which space you’d like to leave your vehicle in and make use of the check-in kiosks for your flight in the parking lot.

Cell phone waiting area

This small courtesy parking lot is situated opposite the jetSet lot on Aviation Avenue and is the perfect place to wait for anyone picking up passengers from the airport. To access the cell phone waiting area, simply turn left off Aviation Avenue or follow road signs marked 'YVR’s Cell Phone Waiting Area'.

Gateway valet and concierge

Gateway valet and concierge parking facilities are located at the Link Building of the Domestic Terminal and at the Fairmont Vancouver Hotel entrance at the International Terminal.

This parking lot provides unrivaled access to the terminal buildings and comes with curbside drop-off and pick-up areas. The concierge services are available for no additional charge and the safe and secure lot is accessible 24-hours, seven days a week.

Business-class parking

Created for passengers who regularly travel through Vancouver International Airport, the business class parking scheme provides access to a reserved area, but removes the necessity for passengers to pay for each individual stay. This monthly parking scheme gives convenient access to reserved stalls within the Parkade, Value Lot or jetSet parking areas.

Corporate parking program

This complimentary program has been specifically designed for organizations and commercial businesses using YVR, offering discounted rates on a semi-annual basis.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the second-busiest airport in Canada. With over 22 million passengers passing through its doors every year and just under 400,000 aircraft movements annually, the only Canadian airport with more traffic is Toronto Pearson International (YYZ).

Throughout the last decade, Vancouver International Airport has been a regular winner of the Skytrax Best North American Airport award and featured among the Skytrax Top 10 airports in the world.

Location of Vancouver International Airport

Situated on Sea Island in Richmond, British Columbia, Vancouver International Airport is roughly 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) from downtown Vancouver. The airport is well connected to downtown Vancouver and its amenities, hotels and entertainment facilities.

The Canada Line is a rapid transit rail connection that transports passengers between YVR and the city of Vancouver in less than 30 minutes, with connections to downtown Richmond taking just 18 minutes. Wheelchair-accessible taxis can also be caught from taxi stands situated on Level 2 of the Domestic and International Arrivals Area at Vancouver International Airport.

Passengers can get to the airport via hotel shuttle buses, provided by a range of local hotels, as well as by bicycle using Sea Island’s cycle routes and bicycle parking at the airport. Anyone traveling to YVR from further afield can drive to the airport and make use of the ample parking facilities or travel via long-distance bus services such as the YVR Whistler SkyLynx bus.

History of Vancouver International Airport

The city of Vancouver has used YVR's location on Sea Island for aviation purposes since 1929 and the airport was first opened to the public in 1931 when it boasted Canada's first hard-surfaced runway. The airport's original terminal was built prior to the airport being used a base for Royal Canadian Air Force training during World War II.

The original terminal is now the South Terminal and the airport was rapidly developed and expanded during the post-war period. YVR's main terminal was completed in 1968, serving 1.9 million passengers in its first year. The terminal has since been expanded from 700,000 square feet (65,000 square meters) to cover 3.5 million square feet (325,160 square meters) and the airport now connects people to more than 120 destinations around the world.

Airport facilities

With two functioning terminals and upwards of 22 million passengers a year, Vancouver International Airport has more trans-Pacific flights than any other Canadian airport and its proximity to Asia has helped to create a thriving and culturally diverse atmosphere inside the terminal buildings. The airport offers extensive opportunities for shopping and cultural experiences, including a range of cuisines and all the facilities you would expect to find in a large, busy and modern flight hub.
